Shown here is a landfill gas vent, one of a dozen on this property. Municipal landfills generate methane gas as their organic material decays. This vent protected the structure from methane gas intrusion when it was first constructed, in the early 1980s.
Estimated landfill boundary covers multiple properties today. Methane gas generation has significantly decreased after several decades. Settlement of the subgrade must also be managed in the years after landfill closure.
